Our club had the pleasure of having Karen Siefent and Glen Scarborough today, who talked about the importance of giving blood to the local blood bank.
While blood is needed for accident victims, it is even more commonly needed and used for cancer patients orthopedic surgeries, organ and marrow transplants, cardiovascular surgeries, and inherited blood disorders.
Because blood has such a very short shelf life, it is absolutely a necessity to give as often as you can! One blood donation can save up to 3 lives.
Mr. Scarborough also shared his story as an accident victim and blood recipient. Mr. Scarborough received an amazing 83 units of blood after a hunting accident that involved a shotgun blast at close range to one of his legs.
After thanking those that already donate, he also urged the importance of not forgetting that having a good stock of local blood is vital to the health of our community.
Thank you for the excellent presentation!
